Fossilized Sand Dollars

Fossils come in many different shapes, sizes and varieties; one of the newest for us to work with in jewelry design is the Holectypus Echinoid, or sand dollar fossil. Holectypus, fossil echinoderm genus, of the extinct echinoids genus are much like the modern sea urchins and sand dollars.

This species are found as fossils exclusively in marine rocks of Jurassic to Cretaceous age (between 200 million and 65.5 million years ago). The echinoids, having such an extremely long fossil record, are often used by scientist and paleontologist for dating rock strata and fossil locations.

The Holectypus was bun shaped with a flat bottom and arched back. The mouth of the echinoids is at the underside of the animal. These are rough looking fossil specimens as most have some cracking and chipping on the top of the shell, but the underside of the specimens are very well preserved. The echinoid has an exoskeleton or outer shell with no inner skeleton. This animal lived mostly in shallow seas and would have moved about on the sea floor by way of moving their long spines that stuck out from their shell; eating mostly algae. Today, many collections, both private and public, are comprised of many different species of fossil echinoids.

Silver Jewelry Necklaces

Jewelries are daily accessories that have been part of many people, mostly females. Jewelries are a big part of most ladies’ everyday getup. Jewelries can be categorized by their own classification, such as earrings, necklaces, rings, bracelets, watches, and other things that used to accessorize the body. Jewelries come in many shapes, sizes, weight, and made. Shapes of jewelries are endless. They can come in many forms, from people’s name, design of any character, symbols, and many other shapes that can be made to as jewelry. Sizes of jewelries also vary from a very small flower earring to a big dangling one. Jewelries are also made from many different materials, which having gold and silver as the famous ones, though it can also come on other materials like plastics, woods, alloy (mixture of metals), etc.

Among the many things that can be made up as jewelry, the most widely used jewelry is a silver jewelry. Compare to gold, silver jewelries are much cheaper than gold jewelries. Not only that, but jewelries made out of silver can be easily paired just about to any color of clothes. It has a fair shade of natural color that can easily blend to any other color, unlike the gold that having the yellowish shade can be picky sometimes to match in any color of clothes.

From among the type of silver jewelries, silver necklace is the type that is mostly seen worn by both female and male. The reason maybe for this is because the color silver has no exact color affinity, meaning, that it has no gender preference, unlike the color pink, which is really associated to females, and the color blue which is originally associated to male gender, although nowadays pink can also be seen worn by male, and blue are also seen worn by female alike.

Silver necklaces though are cheap, but yet, they still carry the sense of class and being casual at the same time. It can be easily worn by any people to just about any occasion. Whether as it is a casual gathering, a street party, formal meetings, silver necklaces or silver bracelets can play a major role in embellishing the look of a certain person or an individual. They may not stand out in a crowd, unlike gold necklaces, but then again, it still carries the touch of elegance paired with the right matching clothes.

Silver Jewelry Earrings

Earrings are a type of jewelry that is very common to all females. Comparing to other types of jewelries such as rings, bracelets, or necklace, the earring is the ever first jewelry that could be worn by a female. Isn’t it that most female babies have their ears pierced, and at first a string or a thread is inserted on the pierced section of their ears, well, that string or thread can be actually noted for as an earring? An earring can be of any form as long as it is inserted on the pierced section of the ears, commonly on the ear lobes. From what was mentioned, it started as a string or a thread. In other countries, wood are what was and what is still used as a material for their earrings even.

The most common earring jewelries are gold jewelry earrings and sterling silver earrings. Gold earrings were dated back from the early centuries. Unlike from our society nowadays, earrings are commonly worn by females, but before then even males are used in wearing earrings as well. In the late 1960s, men are mostly seen wearing earrings; it is actually the age of hippies. But stepping back many centuries ago, in the time of Moses, it is very common for men also to wear gold earrings. One scenario proving this is when Aaron were asked by the Israelites to make them a golden god, and so Aaron asked them, daughters and sons to bring their gold earrings as well. Pharaohs were also recorded wearing earrings as well.

Nowadays, the uses of golden jewelries were slowly being replaced by the use of silver jewelries. For a number of good reasons such as the price, a single gold jewelry can be the price of more than two or three pairs of a silver jewelry. Next is the color, the natural color of silver can be easily matched just by any color of clothes or garments? Silver jewelries can be also worn just to any occasion, whether it may be a casual gathering, to everyday work, and to formal gatherings, silver jewelries can be easily paired just about to any style of clothes and getup.

Though silver comes very cheap in compare to gold, the elegance and glitter of a fine jewelry is still there. That is why it is most common to see people wearing silver rings bracelets, or necklace than gold ones.
