2011: New Year, New Life (?)

2011 will mark some major milestones in my life:

March 2011: David and I will welcome our first child -- a boy.
May 2011: David will turn 30.
June 2011: I will turn 30.
September 2011: David and I will celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary.
November 2011: Marks my 5th year as a licensed attorney (unfortunately, I'll be missing my 5th year reunion in April due to above mentioned baby). Of course, that still makes me the baby of our legal department, but there is something to be said for getting past the first few, really tough years of being a young attorney.

In many ways, the dawn of the second decade of the now not-so-new millennium marks Dave's and my entrance into actual adulthood. Sure, we've technically been adults for over a decade, but I'll admit that we both indulged in the extended adolescence that our society has long allowed twenty-somethings. And we've very much enjoyed all the traveling, eating out, etc. that our disposable income and lack of kids has allowed us. Am I a bit scared at the prospect of this transition? Absolutely, but I think I'm finally ready to embrace adulthood, motherhood and this new year.

But enough of the serious stuff; have a wonderful New Year's Eve and a very Happy New Year! See y'all back next week for some updates on the nursery (I swear my absence in blogland this week is due primarily to being productive!) and more design inspiration.

Bracelets are worn for ornamental purposes and with the fame of expensive metals and costly stones, bracelets have become more costly in recent time. However here are so many kinds of attractive bracelets that require not be costly for instance home-produced bracelets, which are prepared out of a string and nicely beads of special colors. These are finished not of silver & gold and gemstones other than of leather or ribbons combined together to form an outline that suits you & your personality.

Eternity rings are typically worn to represent a person's firm promise to be true to another human being and it also representing a code of admiration & a religious faith. The most frequent reason couples swap promise rings is to promise that they will be engaged in the future. Frequently, a formal engagement might carry with it a lot of wedding plans, important life scheduling questions, economic issues, and potentially unwanted pressure from relations and in laws. In this very case, swapping sterling silver rings is very private and less worrying promise between the couple. It is a friendly commitment to a lifetime bond with no marriage plans. A lot of people find that soon in life they value their promise rings through a unique nostalgia as it represents the easy beginning of true love.

The most costly pearls are the completely round pearls. The outlines vary and might truly depend on individual preference or design necessities. Drop pearl earrings employ pearls that are created like your tear drops. The drop pearl earrings are as well highly prized like round ones. The cost is also fixed by the volume of the pearls. The common rule of thumb while shopping is that the larger the pearl, the higher the cost of the earrings. The majority pearls have a diameter which varies from 6.5 to 7.5 millimeters. Here are also further factors which might influence the cost. For example a cherry-sized pearl might cost lesser if it lacks of shine and has lots of defects.

Was that Kate Middleton’s Engagement Ring?

Two lovers that have been together for a very long time have finally joined knots last month in Kenya. The engagement rings are the same ring that Princess Diana wore. This ring was given by his brother Prince Harry, who had kept the ring ever since Princess Diana died in the car crash. Prince Harry gave the promise ring that belonged to Princess Diana to his brother Prince William due to the engagement. The ring was an 18 cart sapphire with diamonds. The ring is very special to the Royal family, which is now given to Kate Middleton, the future Princess and Queen.

Diana, who died in 1997, had the 18k sapphire ring when she was engaged and later on married with Prince Charles in 1981. After she died, her son Prince Harry had the ring and Prince William had the watch. Prince William and his Kate Middleton ring is seen everywhere together every since their engagement. Prince William is very happy to keep his mothers memory alive through the engagement ring and if Princess Diana was alive, she would have been very proud of her son. The couple were seen at the St. James’ Palace for photographs. Prince William had asked Kate’s father for his daughters hand before proposing to Kate. He was pretty nervous before the big moment and wasn’t really sure if she would say yes.

It has been announced that the wedding will take place next year in April at Westminster Abbey in the theme of a semi-state affair. Prince William wanted to make sure that his mother is not missing out in any of the celebration by giving the 18 carat diamond sapphire ring to Kate Middleton. It is a great honour for Kate to have Princess Diana’s promise ring. The ring was selected by Princess Diana herself, as she had a collection presented to her by Crown Jewelers. The ring was designed by Garrard from the jewelry house. Once both Prince William and Kate Middleton are married, they will live in North Wales, as Prince William is currently based there with the Royal Air Force.

The Ring on Kate Middleton’s Finger

There have been rumours that Prince William and his long time girlfriend Kate Middleton might be engaged, as Kate was seen wearing a ring on her engagement finger during her visit to her hair dresser in London. A British reporter claimed that she hasn’t been to the hair dresser in over a week. In the news, it appears that it is the same ring that Princess Diana wore. The Kate Middleton engagement ring looks stunning with an oval sapphire with 14 diamonds, which is also a set of 18k of white gold.

Recently, Kate Middleton ring has been working for her parent’s mail-order party supply business and has been supporting a charity named The Starlight Children’s Foundation. However, Kate has put herself forward to attend many charity events. In the Telegraph newspaper, it says that Kate's name is already down for certain events, which means she is being involved in many events, with a lot of media attention. She will take a higher profile before the engagement is announced. Once the wedding, Kate will be announced as the Princess and the future Queen. In the news, it was published that Kate has lack of career. Due to this reason, she has been criticized; however, the Royal family has approved Kate.

The promise ring originally belonged to Prince Harry after their mother died in a car crash. Their father let the boys to decide what they wanted; Prince Harry chose the engagement ring and Prince William chose the 18k yellow god Cartier Tank Francaise watch. Now the engagement has been done, everyone is excited about what Kate’s wedding dress will look like. It’s been decided that the wedding is going to be next year sometime in April. Kate Middleton has been getting a lot of attention due to her engagement to Prince William.

Prince Harry gave his mother engagement rings to his brother due to the engagement. It was very graceful of Prince Harry to give Princess Diana’s ring to his brother. Now the engagement has been done, the Royal and Middleton family will be making arrangements for the big day next year in April.

Best of 2010 from our Rock Yard Collection

The Rock Yard collection is a turn of nature’s treasures in fossils, minerals and raw rocks coming to life as single pendants or incorporated into necklace and earring sets. It is by far the most watched and purchased of all our collections; especially the designs using fossils and minerals. This collection is by far the toughest to pick the best of the year from, but here’s our shot at it!

A twist of old turquoise meets million year old fossil; a lovely button ammonite fossil hand wire wrapped in brass non-tarnish wire is at the focal. The base of the necklace is blue turquoise and a green/blue turquoise mosaic mix bead and accents of gold tone pewter.

Many people are used to seeing the ammonite cut on the half shell, but I’ve been working with the whole thing! This design is a whole red ammonite with fire on both sides, encased in brass non-tarnish wire; accented with charmed crystal rondelle beads, gorgeous wavy bronzite and lampwork beads in black to beige design.

Black and white in a nice sized large orthoceras fossil hand wire wrapped in non-tarnish silver wire as a pendant. The necklace base is onyx, red (dyed) coral, Swarovski black cosmo crystals and sterling silver textured square beads.

The charmed necklaces were such a hit that I didn’t want to leave out the fossils; so I created this one using a small orthoceras fossil encased in non-tarnish silver wire and then charmed many swarovski crystals, cloisonné beads and freshwater cultured pearls. All set stationary on a silk black cord with matching earrings in a double coiled spiral.

A large goniatite fossil pendant in soft earthy colors all hand wire wrapped in brass non-tarnish wire is the focal in this design. Then I paired it with two strands of coral chips and long ceramic Tibetan beads which are capped in gunmetal filigree.

Digging around at Tucson one can find some real treasures and I got lucky with several pairs of matching earring and pendant ammonite fossils. This beautiful and striking earthy color in this half shell ammonite fossil that is hand wire wrapped in brass non-tarnish wire; the matching earrings are the same colors and mounted on posts. It is hung from and can be removed to wear on other cords or collars, a beige silk cord.

Best of 2010 from our Mystic Artisan Collection

By far, the largest of our collections is the Mystic Artisan designs and with so many different ones, it was hard to choose just a few. This collection is where high elegance meets trendy, chic and bold in necklaces set in agate, jasper, pearl dichroic glass, swarovski crystals and many more. So here’s several of the best/favorite from this collection!

Dichroic glass pendant and earrings in pink set to an all black back ground, then mixed with onyx stones cut on the diamond to overlap (a difficult cut and unusually hard shape to find in stones) and more pink in faceted graduated rondelle crystals (some hand charmed) with a metallic sheen.

This is the first of the charmed necklace collection that I did and has remained a favorite. I started with a nice dichroic pendant in soft shades of lime green, pink, mauve, and gold. Then set it with tons of hand created charms in freshwater cultured pearls, swarovski crystals and several wired spirals of non-tarnish brass wire. Everything is captured stationary on a beige silk cord.

Murano glass pendants are great to use as a focal; here I’ve paired a lovely heart pendant in cream, blue and red with butterscotch quartz nuggets, swarovski crystals and more pearls. The clusters of crystals at the bail and through-out the necklace are all hand charmed.

Another really big Murano glass pendant in puffy heart red; clustered together with freshwater cultured pearls, swarovski crystals, onyx, and several double coiled hand wired beads in non-tarnish silver wire. All held captive stationary on a black silk cord.

Polymer clay is a really great medium to work with; the beads are so lightweight and are created in just about any pattern. This design features graduated rounds of polymer clay beads shades of blue flowers set against a creamy white background. The big round was used as a focal drop pendant and has open charm dangles; more charms, crystals and freshwater cultured pearls finish off this necklace.

A bit different but one of my favorite combinations in stones; starting with a center heart pendant in turquoise that is flanked with faceted round turquoise, crystals and finished with soft button freshwater cultured pearls. The earrings hold tons of cascading charmed pearls over a single turquoise faceted round.

Different kinds of jewelry

We all know what jewelry is, and how it increases the beauty of women. Jewelry is a common article in our life, we love purchasing it now and then. Jewelry is favorite among women mostly, women use different kinds of jewelry in their day to day life. They use different kinds of jewelry when they go out or attend a party. They use different jewelry according to their choice, taste & capacity. People who have more affordability can buy more jewelry according to the tastes and designs. Earrings is the most loved jewelry by women.

Women use different kinds of jewelry such as necklaces, chains, bangles, earrings, fingerings, etc. Before people wore different kinds of heavy jewelry. But now they have changed their choice, people now think about their comfort. They choose jewelry according to their comfort, so that they can move from one place to another. Now different kinds of light jewelry are being used. Girls are using different kinds of eternity rings, which symbolize a group of friends circle. They prefer these jewelries because these jewelries are very attractive and go well with all the attires. This jewelry does not lose their shining after using and can be used for many years. Once the prices of these jewelleries were very high, but now it has been decreased. So people are choosing these as the article which add shine and style to their lives.

The silver jewelry is the common appeal for all People in the world, these silver jewelry suits with all the attires. The white material used here too make this jewelry, gives a shine. They not only wear these jewelleries, now they also gift these jewelleries to their friends, relatives and also their nearest ones. Actually whenever we see a woman, we can see them wearing different kinds of jewelry which makes her beautiful. Jewelry is a part of every women’s’ life and for that very reason women wear it. These materials are very delicate, one should be careful while dealing with this jewelry. One should clean it with a soft cotton cloth, using special solutions.

Know Your Silver Jewelry

There are many kinds of jewelry available today. Earlier there used to be only limited jewelry options but silver is something that is used for making ornaments & jewelry from a very long time. Due to its quality to blend into any kind of shape & size as required and to add shine in every piece of jewelry, silver has great demand in the market. Silver is basically a metal with the highest thermal & electrical conductivity. Most of the silver is a by product of lead, gold, copper & zinc refining. Widely used for making silver jewelry.

When we think or talk about silver, the very first thing that we think is silver jewelry. But silver is a kind of metal, which is used for a variety of things from making ornaments to utensils, mirrors & even in electrical conductors & contacts. It has multiple uses of its own. But here we are talking about silver jewelry. Silver in its pure form is soft – to be used to create a strong & durable jewelry. That is why, it is mixed with other metals to make it bit hard. And when some other metal is mixed with silver, it gives birth to another kind of material called sterling silver, which is as beautiful & shiny as silver itself, and with new characteristics of hardness in it. It is used to make the ornaments like Sterling Silver rings or sterling silver necklaces. Silver is not only a metal which is used to make ornaments & utensils or to be used for the electrical things. It was considered that silver exist with beneficial healing and with the anti-disease metal properties. That is the reason for which in ancient times people used to keep wines, water, etc. in silver vessels & bottles. In 1990 also, people used to keep silver coins into milk so as to protect its freshness. Silver also have a property of inhibiting the growth of fungi & bacteria and that is why it was added in clothes, especially socks, to reduce any kind of fungal infection & bad odor.

Apart from its use of making silver jewelry such as silver bracelets & earrings, it has various other uses. Silver is a very useful & important metal to be found on this planet. But the way this metal is used, it shows that our future generation will not be able to use it for a very long time. For this reason, it should be protected and used with all care & limit.

Best of 2010 from our Southwest Flair Collection

Our Southwest Flair collection is an array of natural stones such as turquoise, bamboo coral, magnesite, onyx, and spiny oyster just to name a few. Many of the styles reflect classic traditions of the southwest, while others take on a little modern and trendy look but still focusing on the use of the southwest or indian stones. Here’s a look back at this year’s Best/Favorites for 2010.

Three strands of natural turquoise chips and tiny onyx tube stones surround slender rare and exotic Arizona ivoryite stones and a hint of silver metals between. This is a favorite with the bold colors of turquoise in green, brown, black, rust and a hint of blue in some of the stones; set against strong smooth ivoryite.

A little bit of bold statement in sold red colors starting with red (dyed) coral disks, a large sponge coral pendant; between are beige/red colored lampwork rondelle beads and a mass of antique brass wire mess balls. I used two remaining mess wire balls with a hint of coral as earrings to add a little ‘funky’ to the set.

Here is where classic meets modern starting with a large marquee shaped beige faceted crystal pendant, charms of crystals in the bail and through-out and then I’ve added big nuggets of turquoise, medium rounds and cloisonne beads to finish the necklace.

A bold silver pewter square pendant that is textured, then added rare and exotic Arizona ivoryite and long square turquoise nuggets with a hint of red (dyed) coral and a little more silver pewter barrels and you get a very traditional southwest looking design.

More To Silver-Sterling Silver

We all love wearing jewelry, whether men or women. Jewelry is a part of every person’s life. We are here to talk about the beautiful white jewelry that is made from a metal which is very soft and of a great use for all of us. We are talking about silver. As we know silver in its pure form is soft, hence difficult to hold strength. Other metals are mixed with it to make it strong, in order to increase its durability. When another metal is mixed into silver, another substance is formed, which is called Sterling Silver. This is something that we find in all our silver jewelry.

Sterling Silver is the silver which is used to make ornaments since ancient times. As described above, it is a mixture of silver & some other metal. As silver has to be mixed with some other metal to make ornaments, people can be duped by jewelry makers as they can mix more of other metals & less of silver to make ornaments & still call it a silver jewelry. For this reason, US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) considers that any silver jewelry is called a silver jewelry when it contains at least 92.5% of actual pure silver to it. 92.5% is the ratio in which pure silver is to be mixed with the other metal to make ornaments. Majority of the times, the remaining 7.5% of the other metal is of copper. It is copper, which is widely used with silver to make jewelry like sterling silver rings or sterling silver necklaces. Copper provides the hardness that pure silver needs & the tendency to tarnish.

I think now you’ll be absolutely clear with what kind of jewelry you might be looking for & whether it is a sterling silver ring or any other silver jewelry. Make sure you take good care of your silver jewelry. Sterling silver jewelry should be stored in clothes or bags that protect them from any kind of tarnish to the ornament. They should be kept in a dry & cold place, away from any other kind of jewelry in order to protect it from scratches. Celebrity inspired jewelry should be cleaned with the help of polishing cloth. Do not use any kind of toothpaste to clean it.

Celebrity – An Inspiration For Jewelry

We all want to have beautiful & unique jewelry with us that should look trendy, fashionable and attractive enough to make every single girl jealous of it. Jewelry is something that girls cannot live without, whether it is gold jewelry, silver jewelry or diamond or any other gemstone. Every girl wants to be a trend setter or fashionista. For this she even tries to imitate her favorite celebrity. Whatever celebrities wear while walking down the red carpet – needs to make a statement, which their fans are going to take Damn Seriously.

Even the clothes & jewelry worn by the celebrities in a movie can change how people view any design or jewelry. Taking the example of Hollywood movies we can see a lot of diamond & gold jewelry was used. The Hollywood starts like Scarlet Johnson, Pamela Anderson are great fan of this kind jewelry. They wear these jewelries for Oscar wards function s which millions watch. These are the celebrity inspired jewelry, which is a craze among the people. People rushed to get the same piece of design for their weddings or other celebrations. Hollywood inspires the mass for its jewelry & clothings.Twilight movie is the latest ex. Teenagers all over the world are looking for Twilight inspired accessories. Even Wal-Mart is keen on cashing on this opportunity by providing the Twilight inspired merchandise to attract the teens.

Not just movies, even television shows can create this desire as they get popularized among the mass. The television channel TLC is one such channel which shows fashion and jewelry that shows rich and famous wearing these jewelries. When people watch these programs they get inspired by these jewelries and they purchase these celebrity inspired jewelry People demand the same set of jewelry that their favorite characters are wearing in the show. For example, the character ‘sumitra’s’ necklace & bangles or bracelets are much in demand. Thus the celebrity can give a boost to different forms of handicrafts & jewelry if used by them. There are many online stores where we can get this jewelry, one need to be careful when you buy these celebrity inspired jewelry, there are many fake online stores which sells the similar type of jewelry.

Best of 2010 from our Wiry Legends Collection

Wow, it’s been another year and as fast and furious as it went, we still created some designs that we call ‘our best of this year’. Each design is destinitive, original and unqiue in it's own right there were some that  just stood out more than others.  So here’s our look back at all the designs that I’ve done and picking my ‘Favorites or Best’ of the year; I start with my signature, wire designs that include pendants in fossils and minerals along with natural stones. So here’s the best for 2010, in my opinion, from the Wiry Legends collection!

Nature’s beauty at its finest with this next design, a very large Brazilian agate hand wire wrapped in brass non-tarnish wire. It is placed on a beige silk cord and matching twisted double coil and crystal earrings.  This one was so hard to 'let go' because of it's striking beauty encased in brass.

The pendant is a large red (dyed) coral encased in silver non-tarnish coil wires. The charms are all done by hand and feature black agate, red coral, swarovski crystals, and cultured freshwater pearls and wire work in double coils and swirls.  The matching earrings are double coiled swirls and accents of coral, black agate and pearl.

Caging is an accent that I do with the stones, in this design I caged black agate rounds with charmed crystals and the pendant is an unique stone of gray with black and charcol markings of Snail Jasper from the UK. I did the same caging to the earrings and dangled the crystals.

Brazilian Oco agate slice, striking in black with hints of red and white then hand wire wrapped in brassy gold non-tarnish wired. Wavy focal stones of black sardonyx agate amid two-tone black metallic and clear crystals (some charmed through-out and also at the bail) and cultured freshwater button pearls.

Stay tuned for more of our Best of 2010 from among our collections – browse our online shop to purchase available designs.

I love Ruby Love's Modern Baby Books

I'll admit that I'm a big fan of documenting everything (I'm a lawyer, after all!) and I cherish the baby books my mother and grandmother made for me. But a lot of the books on the market today just strike me as a bit too cheesy, a bit too...well, babyish. Cue a random (but most welcome email) from my blogging buddy Laura over at JourneyChic a few weeks ago recommending Etsy seller Ruby Love's gorgeous baby books. Needless to say, I ordered one immediately and I love it so much I just had to pass the recommendation on to y'all. There are, of course, a lot of great baby books available on the market today, but here are a few reasons that I think Ruby Love's makes the top of my list:

1. There's a wide assortment of styles/colors to choose from -- and plenty of not-so-cutesy options that may appeal to your more sophisticated side. [By the way, if you're interested, I happened to select the "Ryland" option for myself.] Because let's face it, you're going to have to live with plenty of cartoons, and kid stuff for the next, oh, decade, so I say pick what you like now before your baby forms his or her own opinion.

2.  The books come as 3-ring albums, which means you can customize, add or subtract pages to your heart's content. I love that I'm not constricted by stupid prompts or left staring at blank pages because I didn't get around to documenting Baby Conn's first sneeze (just toss that page!). This leads me to reason #3...

3. While the standard album comes with plenty of great prompts (personal favorite includes "This Day in History", which reminds me of my Grandma saving the major headlines of the year of my birth -- something I will always treasure) and lots of blank pages for your photographs, there are loads of supplemental pages you can purchase to beef up your album and even extend it into your child's toddle hood (assuming, of course, you haven't completely abandoned documenting your child's every move out of to sheer exhaustion).

If, however, none of Ruby Love's albums strike your fancy but you're still looking for something modern and fun, I'd suggest checking out my two runners up: Baby's First Book over at Rag & Bone and the Binth Baby Book. Any of these would make a wonderful holiday or shower gift for an expectant or new mom.

Win a Bold & Noble Screen Print!

So a few weeks ago I ordered the Noah's Ark print in turquoise from English design collective Bold & Noble for the nursery. Unfortunately, they initially sent me the print in poppy red -- a great color, but definitely not what I ordered. Quick to make amends, however, B&N shipped me the turquoise version and offered to let me keep the red version for myself.

Well, of course the first thing I thought of was that I should give it away to one of my readers -- tis the season, after all! And so, if you'd like this gorgeous, hand pulled print for yourself, all you need do is leave a comment to this post (Note: please include your email address). A random winner will be selected on Wednesday, December 22. Good luck and happy weekend!

The Backyard is (Finally) Finished!

Back in August I posted some pictures showing off some preliminary work we'd done to our backyard. Well, four months later I am thrilled to report that we've finally finished landscaping and that I couldn't be happier with the finished results. While we spent a huge chunk of my 2010 bonus on the yard, both Dave and I believe that we've managed to create a little something out of the ordinary, something that would set our home apart from our neighbors, and somewhere that we'd be happy to spend our spare time given that Baby Boy Conn's arrival will almost certainly mean an end to our big trips (at least for now). In short, I think it was worth the money...and the wait.

Probably the single biggest change to the yard was the extension of the patio and the construction of the pergola. We decided to go with the same brick as the house and the same paint as the trim for a seamless look and I must say that the finished product looks like it came with the house.

Our landscaper Kevin insisted that we must have pots (and big ones!) for annuals and some small citrus. Dave was hesitant initially (both because of cost and an inexplicable aversion to pots) but we found some simple, inexpensive gray pots at a local garden center that blended perfectly with the crushed granite beds and that we're both happy with. I must say that these may be my single favorite element in the design as they add both height and color around the patio.

The side entrance to the backyard has been transformed from ho-hum to something quite lovely. Note the Meyer Lemon tree on the right. I can't wait for those babies to ripen so I can use them to make some lemon pistachio cookies for the holidays! We still need to add a few pavers to the pathway (and let the grass grow back in), but come spring when the hydrangea bloom this corner of the yard will be almost magical.

We decided to erect a few screens to block the view of our red brick fence (which isn't awful, of course, but it does rather clash with the brick on our house). I love the circle motif on the screens, which echo the circular fire pit and break up all the straight lines of the fences. Vegetation is a mix of tropicals (an orchid tree, hibiscus), citrus (several orange varietals), native Texas plants, and more traditional garden plants (camilas, roses, etc.).

Absolutely love the vivid silver of the Texas sage, especially against the darker green of the rose bushes. Can you see the large planters behind the screens? They've been seeded with wildflowers and I'm looking forward to seeing what pops up this spring.

The patio extension and fire pit are flanked by six crepe myrtles, which come spring will be in full bloom through most of the summer. We've planted a few wisteria at the base of the pergola. Kevin promises that they'll quickly grow up and along the pergola, creating a wonderful canopy of violet and deep green. I love the romantic quality of wisteria -- there's something very Southern about it -- and I look forward to spending some quiet afternoons sitting outside, sipping lemonade and playing with the baby.

Ah the fire pit: Dave's big "want" that I'll admit I was a bit dubious of at first. I insisted we put it away from the house and Kevin came up with a great solution for making it blend in perfectly with the rest of the design. The low wall behind it provides excellent seating for toasting marshmallows or just sipping a beer or two. We actually built a fire on Sunday for the first time and had a lovely time sitting outside in the chilly weather enjoying the smell of burning wood (it's rather intoxicating, no?) and watching the fire. I'm having family over for Christmas Day dinner and I'm hopeful that the weather will cooperate so we can build another fire and move the party outdoors.

If you live in the greater-Houston area and your yard is in need of some serious sprucing up, I'd highly recommend Kevin Boyd (of Nature's Realm) for any sort of landscaping or hardscaping needs. He was by far the most creative landscaper we spoke with and his ideas really helped make our less-than-defined vision a reality.

Celebrity - The Jewelry Trend Setter

We always try to keep a check on what our favorite celebrity is wearing. We try to imitate them, by wearing the similar designed clothes or jewelry. Be it, a Hollywood or Bollywood celebrity or any other celebrity whom we get inspired from, they are always under the scrutiny of our eyes. The recent news about Prince William getting engaged to Kate Middletown has created an opportunity for the market to present the most demanded replicas of Kate Middleton engagement ring. Everyone wants to have the similar design for themselves. The celebrity status is an influential one. Many designs which were old and not desired for in the market, got a new life if a celebrity wear it on the red carpet or even his/her routine life. For ex, the visit of the First Lady of America, Mrs. Michelle Obama’s shopping at the Indian Crafts Museum made many heads turning towards the Indian Craft. Thus celebrity inspired jewelry is always in demand.

Virtual Vacation: Great Smoky Mountains

Dave and I have elected to spend our Christmas vacation at home again this year, and while I welcome the opportunity to indulge in a bit of a "staycation," I can't help but wish we were sitting around a slightly more festive environment -- like, say, a cozy cabin nestled in the mountains.

Now I'll be the first to admit that I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, a girl who likes to "rough it". To pull a few lines from Troop Beverly Hills (a favorite movie of mine as a kid) [In reference to the Troop "camping out" at the Beverly Hills Hotel]:

Velda: "Is this what you call roughing it?"
Phyllis: "One bathroom for nine people? Yes."

And so, while I may be a fan of the Great Outdoors, I've always preferred to spend my nights in slightly more luxurious surroundings -- and I wouldn't normally consider cabins as qualifying. But in the talented hands of Atlanta designer Suzanne Kasler, this cozy English-style cabin (dubbed Toad Hall) nestled in the heart of the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee manages to be both rustic and luxe. It also happens to be the kind of place I'd love to escape to for the holidays: the perfect spot to cozy up by a big wood burning fire with the hubby, pup and a good book.

I love the warmth that the tapestry, rug and heavy curtains bring to the exposed wood walls and ceiling. The overall feeling is to reminiscent of an English country house, where the cold wood and stone walls and floors are covered with heavy fabrics and tapestries to insulate against the harsh British weather.

Decorating Tip #476: A beautiful Chinoiserie screen works anywhere, even in a log cabin. Perhaps what I love most about this cabin is that there's nary a moose head or stuffed pheasant in sight. Just goes to show you that there's no reason to slavishly adhere to "hunting lodge style" if you want to create a rustic, cabin mood.

Should you decide to invite a large group over to your winter hideaway, there's plenty of space for entertaining in the dining room. Anchoring the large table with two wingback chairs in a buttery yellow brings in a more modern touch, a nice counterbalance to the traditional dining set, candelabra and curtains. While much of the furniture and the walls are dark, plenty of light streams in from the french doors.

I'm fairly certain I'd be parked in front of this fire for much of the day, watching the snow fall outside the window while enjoying the crackle of the fire. Divine.

I love how the kitchen is both rustic and modern. The cabinetry has the look of fine furniture and the lack of upper cabinets gives the kitchen a more refined look that you might find in a dining room. Indeed, the lower cabinets resemble a buffet that just happens to have a gorgeous oven in the center of it.

Of course the master bedroom has a large stone fireplace -- all the better to snuggle up by on a cold winter's night. I love the height of the room as well, but the canopy bed keeps the feel cozy rather than cavernous. The juxtaposition of the floral fabric and the rustic walls and fireplace makes this room perfectly suited for both men and women.

This beautiful canopied bed has me simply dying to dive in it head first. Nothing like a big, fluffy duvet and a roaring fire for sleeping in over the holidays. My only question: where are the side tables and bedside lamps?! As an avid reader in bed, I'm at something of a loss to explain their absence (especially since there's clearly room around the bed for small tables).

Of course though, like any good cabin worth its salt, it's the view outdoors that's the most compelling, the most awe-inspiring. This time of year you might need a space heater and a few blankets to make this porch comfortable, but I'm sure the views across the lake would be well worth it.

Who doesn't love sitting on a rocker on the front porch chewing the fat late into the night?

The "Writer's Cottage", another guest house, is nestled between the garden and the woods beyond. I'd imagine it's exactly the sort of place a writer might go looking for some inspiration.
