BlackBerry 9900; RIM Saving Grace

The year 2011 has been a particularly hard one for leading Smartphone providers, Research in Motion (RIM) with the company said to have lost 4.3% share in BlackBerry OS. It was further revealed that RIM intends to cut 11 percent of its employees due to its struggle to compete with other Smartphones such as Apple iPhone and Android phones. There is no doubt that Apple iPhone and Android phones are considerably undermining RIM market share, but the firm has reported that this is bound to change with the launch of their new products.

One of these products that are expected to help RIM regain its lost market share is the new BlackBerry Bold 9900, which is widely expected to win over old BlackBerry enthusiasts, and win new ones as well. One of the features that has made the BlackBerry so popular is its QWERTY keypad, which is said to be the best ever made by RIM on the BlackBerry 9860. This particular keyboard boasts more spacious keys and newly added ergonomic styling, and typing emails has been made even easier.

Some might argue that a smaller BlackBerry screen is a huge price to pay for an advanced keypad (as the BlackBerry bold screen measures 2.8-inches) but the screen is touch enabled, making navigating through menus considerably faster and sleeker. The device also provides for better gaming, as the device supports great apps such as Rovio, makers of the smash hit Angry Birds game like the BlackBerry Torch apps.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 screen also boasts a 680 × 480 megapixel resolution, which makes it the best high-specs screen on any BlackBerry yet. Although the screen is relatively small, it is still great for viewing films and flicking through photos, thus making it a fair alternative to any version of an Android phone.

The BlackBerry Bold 9900 also incorporates the best in Smartphone software and technology, as it has a BlackBerry OS7 platform that comes with several enhancements to make using the device faster and more up to date. There are also tweaks on this version of the BlackBerry such as HTML support, a BlackBerry browser, BlackBerry Balance and a voice activated search, all set to appeal to a wider Smartphone audience. The phone also boasts an impressive 1.2GHz internal processor and a 5-megapixel camera capable of shooting HD videos.

The BlackBerry 9900 could definitely be the saving grace of RIM. This device is definitely going to appeal to a wide audience and improve the sales for BlackBerry phones. The BlackBerry Torch price will definitely give other Smartphone companies a run for their money.
