Sassy Southwest Design for Fall

This design in a little different and full of soft colors for the coming fall season. Featured is a lovely agate pendant; cut square with a nice polish on both sides. The pendant is lovely colored in soft shades of tan with white and splashes of dark purple.

I hand twisted several faceted rondelle crystals accent above the pendant and act as a bail; then I added in more faceted crystals in complimenting colors, golden rutilated quartz faceted hexagons and metal accents in gold tone pewter spacers.

Hand Wire Wrapped Fall Agate Slice

This new necklace set features an all naturally colored Brazilian agate slice pendant! The colors of orange and rust with some cream remind me of a deep fall sunset. I have hand wire wrapped it using non-tarnish brass wire with lots of twists at the bail.

I wanted this necklace to be versatile enough to wear any time of year, so I put softer bright colors within the necklace strands itself. I started with creamy smooth glass pearls, green marbled ceramic beads that hare caged in gold tone wire, and a little bit of sparkle with faceted rondelle crystals in light fall colors.

This piece is both elegant and classy using a variety of techniques; wire wrapping, caging, and mixing of ceramic, glass pearls and crystals with a lovely natural agate stone.

Wired Earthy Agate Slice Pendants

In these designs I’ve started with focal pendant in beautiful agate slices. They are all naturally colored in shades of earthy fall – tan, green, gray-blue, rust, cream, white, and brown. The pendants are highly polished on both sides and the edges have been left slightly raw to rough; giving a true ‘earth’ look and feel to the pendants. The pendant is a free form wire wrap in shiny non-tarnish gold wire.

In this design (to the right) I’ve used the green agate slice and surrounded it with mosaic turquoise, toffee colored ceramic beads, gold tone spacers, and a touch of ivoryite for bold color. The pendant is wired in non-tarnish bronze wire.

This design (to the left) starts with a lovely focal pendant in an odd angular oval shape. The agate has more roughness to the edges is quite large, making it a perfect single pendant with matching swirl earrings. The wire is non-tarnish brass wire.

The last design (to the right) is a medium sized agate oval wired in non-tarnish brass wire. The base of the necklace is blue denim lapis, ivoryite, smooth brass rounds, and light blue-white lampwork beads.

A Different Type of Jasper

This pendant is a really different type of jasper from the United Kingdom, it is called snail jasper. The background is a shade of gray with some white mixed in; then ‘snail marks’ are the black lines throughout the pendant. It has been cut in a large round, with a smooth back and slopped sides with a high polish on both sides.

I’ve mixed the pendant with smooth round black agates that are caged in silver wire; between are a mixture of black and clear faceted rondelle and bicone crystals. This is a lovely design in the fashion staple black/white mixed with grays; wear it to dress up that little black dress, an evening out or casually with any outfit.

Haze of Purple Agate

Agates are an amazing natural stone; they come in an array of colors and the combinations incredible. This new design is in purple agates and crystals. The highly polished pendant is cut in a crescent moon shape with varying shades of light lilac and coppery veins.

The strands are of unusual heat treated faceted crystals that change color depending on the light; from deep purples to orchid and into light blue/purple shade; an incredible design with multiple dimensions; a few faceted round agates capped in sterling silver have been added for flavor and spice. The long dangle earrings include the same stones and crystals in the cluster style, that is hitting new designs everywhere.

Dramatic Black & White Design Affect

A mix of rare and exquisite creamy ivoryite stones from the Arizona mines are strung for a dramatic design against banded black agate stones. The agate coin stones have striking banding in an almost off-white color with a hint of brown; some of the stones when held up to the light are almost translucent. Between the stones are pewter star spacers and the triangular agate pendant is hung with a silver twisted swirl bail.

Pretty In Pinks Or Purples

Spring always brings out the bright colors, especially those in the Pink and Purple color combinations. These two new designs dive into those two colors each a little differently.

What’s not to like about this Brazilian Ocos Agate (pictured to the right) with crystal formation resembling those summertime beaches, matching it up with Amethyst crystals and pinky/purple freshwater peals.

Brilliant and solid with a center of crystallized formations a raw Brazilian Agate slice (pictured to the left) as a single pendant to any summer/spring time outfit; matched with free spirit silver dangle earrings.

Started as One Became Another

This design started out with the black Agates, Turquoise nuggets and pendant. It just never really ‘spoke’ or had that ‘pop’ as the designs usually did, it just kinda rubbed against the grain, so to speak. So, I took it apart, dug through the beads and came up with this.

Designs in freshwater Pearls, between silvertone star spacers, black Agates that are almost translucent with white/cream banding through some, and highlighted by a nice mother-of-pearl pendant; nice thing about the pendant is that it is smooth on one side and the blister pearls have been left on the other, gives it a ‘two-in-one’ piece.

Mass Coil Links Go Simple

Yet another re-design for the studio; this particular piece started out with a mass of all coil links in black and brass and then I added charmed Sardonyx Agates. It got lots of attention and a few people even tried it on, but at over 24” and all the coil links it never really found a home.

So, back to the board with this one and pulled it apart; the black coil links and Sardonyx Agates were kept and met with faceted black Onyx and white glass beads. And I had two links left over to make dangle charmed earrings to match! It’s much shorter than the original and I still have the brass coil links and have another design in mind…so stay tuned!

Russian Lace Agate Design

I had this Russian Lace Agate for a while and just needed the right combination of stones to set it off. I think I found it in this beauty. This stunner in Russian Lace Agate cut on the diamond and accenting a nice deep brown Sardonyx Agate, nestled between faceted Smoky Quartz and silver spacers; wear it long with extender or short style and matching dangle hook earrings.

Smoky Quartz: Dissolving emotional blockage, clearing the mind, cooperation, personal pride, joy in living, attentiveness to the moment, protection.

Wire Wrapped Ex-Large Pendants

I got the challenge from Panther Creek Minerals to wire wrap several very large agate slices. It was a little challenging, because I hadn’t ever taken on such large pendant sizes to wire wrap; but I did succeed and these are the results. Each Brazilian ex-large agate slice pendant has been carefully handcrafted with either non-tarnish artistic silver or bronze wire.

Agate in Bronze

Agates are also another favorite natural stone that I enjoy designing. This Agate is in beautiful shades of beiges, browns and the creamy outer raw edge gives this one a look all its own. I’ve free wired it in non-tarnish bronze wire, coiled a little on both sides for texture and added spirals to highlight the bail. Coiled spiral dangles with fossil stones in matching earrings complete the look.

The Agate is provided by Panther Creek Minerals of San Antonio, Texas; a company offering decorator minerals and fossils.

Worldly Agates

Another favorite natural gemstone that I work with are Agates; giving me much inspiration to create. A common, semiprecious type of chalcedony, Agate is the compact, microcrystalline variety of quartz. In general, its physical properties are those of quartz. Most agates form in cavities in ancient lavas or other extrusive igneous rocks. They are characterized for the most part by color bands in a concentric form, and less often by moss-like inclusion (Moss Agate). The characteristic bands usually follow the outline of the cavity win which the mineral has formed. The band colors are determined by the differing impurities present, and occur in shades of white, yellow, grey, pale blue, brown, pink, red, or black. Much of the sliced agate offered on the market in particularly bright colors is dyed or stained to enhance the natural color, an easy process because of its porous nature. It is found in former volcanic regions such as Black Forest, Saxony, Germany; Brazil, Uruguay, Mexico, United States, and Indian peninsula.

History & Legend
Historically, the name Agate is derived from the river Achates in Sicily. The Greek philosopher Theophrastrus described this gem as early as 300 b.c. and in Byzantium people already knew how to enhance the color of agate by burning.

Agates are among the oldest good luck and healing of natural gemstones. Because of its layered structure, agate was often used for the cameo engraving of heads and coats of arms against deeper underlying color.

Agates enable the wearer to choose between true friends and false ones. It is said to avert storms and lightening, protect children from danger, bring prosperity and prevent miscarriages. Traditional properties include balancing physical-emotional-intellectual and spiritual energies, perceptiveness, strength, inspiration, and awakening talents within the wearer. Red agates are related to the solar plexus chakra; blue agates are associated with the throat chakra. Its star sign is for Taurus and Capricorns to sensitize and strengthen willpower. Agates should be worn directly on the skin and cleansed once a month under warm running water.
