Enter The Brazilian Oco Agate

One of my most popular and requested wired pendant is the Oco Agate Slice.  These are also one of my many favorite pendants (yes I have many, but this one is in the top) to work.  Their unique colors is a mesmerizing explosion of deep dark rich earthy brown, black, navy, olive, and rust or the slightly more delicate shades of pink, purple, cream, white, and gray.  What sets them apart from any other agate is the crystalline centers, some even have very tiny crystal cylinders within the crystalline.

Agate geode halves which are found in the Ocos region of Brazil are small agate nodules with a crystalline interior. Agate is named after a river in Sicily called Achates, where it was found in the Fourth Century, B.C. In the center of the rock, where there is a cavity, crystals often form, thus the name geode.

The formation in which the geodes are found is 50 million years old and located in the country of Brazil. Farmers have gathered the oco’s for many years. After the crops have been harvested and the farmers are unable to work, the fields are tilled under allowing the oco’s to appear. They are then gathered and sold for cutting into the geode half.

With the Holidays near, we will be spending time with friends and family, getting re-energized, re-focused and re-generated for next year! Wisdom in Pearls

Next to diamonds, I think Pearls are a woman’s second choice or best friend. There is just something about the sophistication, nostalgic innocence, and classy look of pearls either simply alone or stung into any jewelry design. They can bring a dull necklace incorporated among stones or crystals and give it a trendy or classy look. Don’t get me wrong, my single strand grandmother’s pearls are still the best thing, especially since they have been handed down thru the family.

Deep in the Arts of Texas

Pumkins, football, leaves turning deep fall colors and the smell of cooler temptures means that the fall show season is here!!

For those in the San Antonio, Texas area, Timeless Designs will be at the Deep in the Arts of Texas show this Saturday, October 10th, Live Oak Civic Center from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Help support the Randolph Officer’s Spouse Club (ROSC) at their annual craft show. Over 100 vendors featuring artists from around the state, raffles, food and every hour is a silent auction.

Timeless Designs will be donating to the auction, this Orthoceras Pendant wire wrapped in non-tarnish silver wire and teardrop dangle earnings in black coral (dyed) and crystal.

We’ll have new designs in necklaces and earrings, wired pendants (sets too!) and a few surprises!!

Custom Design Bling

The request from a customer came to mix a lot of crystals with bronzite and a pendant. Needless to say, it’s been a challenge, but then I love a good challenge! The customer had a good idea of what kind of set she wanted, just left it up to me to “Create something like you always do, just make sure it has lots of bling”, she said. Working to get the right mix of stones and crystals together, the hardest part was trying to find a pendant. First, I was trying to find a bronzite pendant to accent the entire piece, but I just couldn’t quite come across the right cut that looked good with the piece (though I get one from the resident gemologist, but I have other ideas for that one!).

What I did finally come across was the Ocos Agates I’ve been working with and the sparkling color mix on this one just struck me to mix with the necklace. So I laid it all out, included a lot of faceted crystals for a good amount of ‘bling effect’; the golden topaz brings out the gold flakes in the bronzite and the amethyst crystals bring out the brilliant pink/purple colors within the Ocos Agate, just accenting the druzy crystals, and handcrafted the agate with artistic non-tarnish brass wire. I added a touch of gold open spacers; fancy gold toggle and small accent dangle earrings, at her request, to complete the entire set.

The result is this uniquely handcraft custom bling, “Absolutely gorgeous and breathtaking”, she says; onto her next request, long and simple with a splash of gold and multi-color crystal bling. Like I said, I love a good challenge!

Custom Jewelry Pieces

Quite often I get a request from a customer to make a custom piece to match an outfit or dress for a special event. In this case, I recently got a request from a loyal customer who bought our beautiful Crazy Lace Agate Crystals Copper bracelet. She wore it to work and realized that she needed a matching pair of earrings! After her inquiry, I dug through my inventory to see if I see had the stones – we got lucky!

Here I’ve designed a nice pair of dangle earrings in the same matching pair of Crazy Lace Agate and highlighted it with off-set crystals and copper.
